Reflections on Ten Years at Tecplot, Inc.

The Team at Tecplot

I celebrated 10 years with Tecplot last week, and it prompted me to reflect about our company. It’s a challenge to try to explain to friends exactly what Tecplot does, but I have this standard elevator speech:

“Tecplot helps scientists and engineers understand their computer simulations of fluid flow with plots, graphs, and other visualization methods.”

I also share a little about our customers who are well-known and worldwide, like Chevron, Boeing, and NASA, but also include the less familiar government organizations like Sandia National Labs, Air Force Research Lab, and Los Alamos Nuclear Lab.

For a relatively small company, we have a customer footprint that is worldwide.

As I continue to reflect, I realize that we have been blessed by founders and a team who are driven to create products of high value to our user community, and they want to have a little fun while doing it.

Several times a year, we have all-company outings – the most recent was to watch one of the longest game in Mariner baseball history! We’ve seen two openings of Star Trek movies, toured the Boeing plant in Everett, played volleyball at summer picnics, and did the limbo at a Hawaiian holiday party.

Giving back is a value ingrained in our company culture, and Hopelink, which provides food and support to the less fortunate in our local community, has been chosen as the beneficiary of our charity events – like per-mile pledges during Bike-to-Work, a coin drive that challenged internal departments to collect the most spare change, and a holiday toy and food drive.

So, after 10 years, I am very happy to be part of a company that will serve our customers and community well into the future.

Best in Class
